Big Bang 2007 Report

2007 saw changes to Big Bang but another great weekend was the result. The change of date was met with clear skies on Friday and Saturday then after a slow start more sun on Sunday.

The additional drag racing classes of 9.50 Bike and Outlaw Anglia joining Street Eliminator, Super Mods and the VWDRC proved popular with the spectators on the bank and as always everyone had the chance to take their own VW on the track for rwyb and plenty of people did just that. Leading the RWYB field was James Hodson in his VW Golf, who broke the European front wheel drive record on Saturday with a 10.666s at 132.77mph. There was also demo runs from the fire throwing jet cars, Fireforce 3 and the Jet Beetle.

From Friday lunch time the full spectrum of VWs poured onto site with the VW Club camping fields filling up quickest. 2007 saw the first Big Bang Best Club Stand award which went to Monkeyspinner VW Club who not only had a great collection of vans and beetles but had parked them up in a perfect arc.

As always there was plenty of live music starting on Friday night with live acoustic anthems from Freak-1-C then DJ Trademark hit the decks. Saturday daytime had the first four bands in the jam session (Adam Mills, Contingency Plan, The Boy Done Well, and Ottogono) playing on the live stage with plenty of room in mini grandstand for people to sit and watch in the sun. Saturday night again had Fuelers packed, this time for Jensen and Carwash. On Sunday was the second Jam Session with Tonnica, Rosalita, The Tarka Groove Experiment, and Pint Shot Riot.

As well as the music on the stage there was comedy in the bar on Sunday from Dougie Dunlop and Sully O'Sullivan. Lunch times on the track was Bug Push time, in the semifinals Suffolk Buggers defeated HT Tuning and Kooky Racing defeated The Fat possums before losing to Suffolk Buggers in the final.
