2004 Report

A big thanks to everyone who made it along to the show, we hope you had a great time.

We got off to a damp start on Saturday morning, but it didn't deter the hardcore VW fans who turned up in their droves to enjoy the most chilled-out show on the calendar. Although the weather made setting up tents a bit of a pain and held up the days racing, there was plenty to see off track, including a free cinema screen and loads of traders and side-shows. Ron Lummus gave the first of his tech-talks to a fascinated crowd at lunchtime, and despite the rain, there WAS track action in the form of a reverse bug-push (won by the Mega-low Maniacs) and squeegee racing!

The patience of those wanting to see some track-action was rewarded when the track opened late in the afternoon, and a whole bevy of amazing VWs, yank V8 gassers and other race cars took to the strip. The track staff stayed on late to keep the racing running until late in the evening, and it's just as well, because the cars of our Swedish guests were absolutely breath-taking. on the subject of breath-taking, the Fireforce jet car once again smoked-out the barn and shook the tower with a storming 6-second run.

In the evening, Paindance showed us how to party with 90's dance music and glow-sticks. Louis Gaston took to the stage after Paindance and rocked the big-top until the end of the night. Sunday was warm and dry all day with VWDRC action on the track all day.

Amazingly close racing took place, with the winners as follows:
Pro VW: Ken Blomer def. Richie Webb. #1 qualifier Bernard Newbury
Sportsman VW: Graham Fairhead def. Michael Geraghty. #1 qualifier Brian Burrows
VW A/E: Spencer Tramm def. Matt Atwood. #1 qualifier Spencer Tramm

In the bar marqee the battle of the bands competition was won by rising stars Johnny Panic (remember where you saw them first!), but the competition was so close, we have decided to also give a Bug Jam mainstage slot to the fabulous Ragmop. Thanks to all the bands who came along, we hope you had a great day and also got a chance to watch the Vee-Dubs at some point too.

Sunday evening saw the return of the Carwash, with Jensen and the gang on stage, and some crazy outfits in the crowd. We loved Evel Kenivil wearing his crash-helmet all night and drinking through a straw! Jensen even kept the crowd dancing when the music temporarily cut-out: what a man!

Monday morning was more than a bit damp, but it didn't stop some great show-cars from attending the show & shine competition. Full details will be posted up here very shortly. Amazingly, despite the morning rain, the rain-clouds blew away, and a bright and sunny afternoon appeared! More track action brought a great weekend to a close in style.

Big thanks to Julian of the Herts VW club for the pictures on this page, click here to visit the club website for even more awesome pictures.
