Big Bang 2019 Report
That festival feeling was well and truly in the air this weekend as Big Bang 2019 hosted an explosive, jam-packed schedule for all you VW lovers of all ages. Whether you joined us for the track action, show cars, fun fuelled family entertainment or just a good knees up, we hope you all had a great time with us here at Santa Pod; this weekend certainly offered more ‘bang’ for ya buck with the unique racing on track from Doorslammers and the vantastic line up from Transitmania!
Throughout the weekend there was plenty of action both on and off the track to keep us entertained. Cool Flo BMX brought their team of outstanding Pro riders showcasing demos alongside the awesome Slippers the Split DJ Bus! Podzilla was causing car crushing monster truck mayhem in the Live Action Arena alongside The Bastouil Chaix Drift Beetle who unfortunately broke after one show but don’t despair, this French 200bhp bug will be back for Bug Jam 33 in the Summer!
We hope you all enjoyed the Doorslammers portion of this weekend! For all the exhilarating track action from this unique, one of a kind race events, please visit www.thedoorslammers.co.uk.
Friday night in the marquee showcased Big Bang’s dance night with DeeJay FX providing some banging beats for you all to party to. Over in Fuelers Bar, the brilliant and ever so cool Outsiders took us on a journey through the 50s with those great tunes we all know and love. You hope you all enjoyed jivin’ and rock ‘n’ rollin along!
The Show Paddock on Saturday hosted the Rust & Rat competition. We saw styles and designs on display. This competition is always tough as it can prove to be instinctive and abstract. Well done to the following winners:
A big thank you to everyone who came to Fuelers Bar to take part in the Big Bang Bring & Buy Auction. You will be pleased to know we raised a fantastic £650 for the charity; the I Donate Campaign works to raise awareness and encourage about people to sign up to the NHS Organ Donor register – well done!
Boxeddy hit the stage over in Fuelers on Saturday night with an evening jam packed with indie, rock and pop classics. Over in the marquee, we boogied the night away with Johnny & The Goodtime Boys – the glitz and glamour of Motown Soul was the theme of the evening with this incredible 8-piece band playing all those timeless hits from pop music’s greatest genre. What Big Bang line-up would be complete without the famous Jensen D Groover; ‘The King of Disco’ kept us movin’ and a groovin’ with his Funkin’ Big Soul Party long into the night.
Bringing a heavy dose of flame and thunder to Big Bang, Oklahoma Willy, The Jet VW Pick Up and FireForce 3, The Jet Funny Car tore up the raceway reaching unimaginable speeds in the blink of an eye. Martin Hill in FF3 ran an incredible 5.88 @ 274mph – if you blinked you may have just missed it!
The Autoglym Show & Shine Competition on Sunday showcased an outstanding congregation of VWs; the Show Paddock saw all types of pristine and stunning automobiles of all shapes and sizes. Whether you were there to see the ultimate custom car, rare original or restored beauty – this impressive line-up of VWs had something for everyone making judging this year particularly hard! We salute all of you who entered – you did us proud! Well done to the winners of the following classes:
We hope you enjoyed your weekend as much as we did and had a fun and action-packed festival. Thank you to everyone who brought a VW along, especially the clubs and those of you who get involved with our Show Paddock competitions. Bug Jam 33 isn’t far away so hopefully we will be seeing you all very soon on 26th – 28th July 2019 for some summer time VW celebrations!
